An Interview With A Bills Fan

Today, on the eve of the first Sunday of the 2007 season, I am going to be posting some interviews I did with other bloggers around The AFC East.

First up, an interview with the BuffaLowdown. I’m telling all my friends to check out their Buffalo Bills radio show - it’s a great way to stay informed.

Is JP Losman The Answer?
In the long run I think he is. I’m guessing we’ll see him struggle a little early in the season again but overall I anticipate he will have a good season and a better career. As is the case with any team it takes more than just a quarterback to succeed. I think that Losman proved last season that he is more than capable of putting up big numbers in this league. If you compare Losman to the other QB’s drafted in 2004 his stats compare fairly well. He had a better completion percentage than Manning, Rivers, and Roethlisberger and had a better QB rating than all of them with the exception of Phillip Rivers. The key is that Losman plays within the offensive scheme and doesn’t try to do too much himself.

What are your thoughts on the job Marv Levy is doing as GM?
I was as skeptical as the next guy when they brought Levy in as the GM but so far I like the results. The team hasn’t really had much success yet but they will. The Bills have lacked an identity for years under Tom Donahoe and now they are develpoing an identity. It seemed that the former regime was more interested in bringing in big name guys and less interested in building a team. Levy made a decision to upgrade the offensive line and went out and signed Derrick Dockery to a big contract and then signed Langston Walker as well. They also decided to rebuild the defense and have some really good young players like Donte Whitner, Ko Simpson and Paul Poslozsny.

What is the Bills’ biggest strength heading into the 2007 season?
The Bills biggest strength this season is going to be the offense. I think the one-two punch with rookie running back Marshawn Lynch and Anthony Thomas will keep defenses off balance and allow J.P. Losman and Lee Evans to connect on some big plays. The offensive wildcard is Roscoe Parrish who is explosive when he has the ball in his hands. As I stated before I anticipate some struggles but overall I anticipate big numbers from the offense.

What is their biggest weakness?
Defensive experience. The defense is lacking in veteran leadership outside of Aaron Schobel and Chris Kelsay. The defensive backfield and linebackers are really young and will have some growing pains. It will be tough to limit big plays by opposing offenses unless the young guys like Ko Simpson and Donte Whitner mature quickly.
