The Greenest Dolphin

In 1983, the Miami Dolphins drafted a QB by the name of Dan Marino. Marino would go on to become one of the greatest QBs to never win a Super Bowl, and this is especially bad news for Dolphins’ fans because he played his entire career in Miami.

Dan MarinoMany Marino supporters claim that the Dolphins never surrounded Marino with enough talent to win the big game. He didn’t have the defense. Or the run game. Or the receivers. Or the offensive line.

While we’ll never be able to point to the exact reason(s) why Marino doesn’t have a ring, what we can agree on is that the Dolphins have had trouble filling his shoes since he left. Since 1999, the Dolphins have had a great defense and a great running game (take a look at 2002), but not the QB to pull it all together.

Damon Huard, Jay Fieldler, Ray Lucas, Brian Griese, AJ Feely, Gus Frerotte, Sage Rosenfels, Daunte Culpepper, Joey Harrington, and Cleo Lemon have all made starts since Marino left in 1999.

Trent Green, Miami DolphinsNow, it’s Trent Green’s turn. Trent Green was happy to get out of Kansas City because he didn’t feel the Chiefs were giving him a fair shot at the starting job. Who’s going to start for KC? Well, it could quite possibly be Damon Huard (hmm…where have we heard that name recently?).

Now the Dolphins are handing the 37-year-old the reigns to the team. Will this bring the Dolphins out of the AFC East cellar? Or will it (and not selecting Brady Quinn in the draft) haunt them for years to come?

Only time will tell, but if you have a guess feel free to participate in the TAE poll (on the right) or leave a comment below.
